Abstract

Employees are often required to work on multiple teams simultaneously, a scenario known as Multiple Team Membership (MTM). Research thus far has underscored the double-edged sword of MTM: access to diverse resources, knowledge, and networks, but also increased cognitive overload and stress likely affecting people’s well-being. While current literature provides valuable insights into MTM experiences, it often adopts a narrow lens on inherently multifaceted issues (e.g., many papers are quantitative, rely on correlational methods, and focus on specific aspects of MTM or limited outcomes). This symposium aims to broaden current perspectives on MTM by promoting a multilevel, multimethod, and holistic approach to its study. The papers presented in this symposium deeply investigate the experiences of MTM, proposing innovative methodologies and in-depth analyses across diverse organizational settings and different types of teams.
